Birmingham started life as a tiny manufacturing town. Hard to believe it was ever so small, it was once dwarfed by both Warwick and Coventry. It was 1166 when Peter De Birmingham won the right to hold a weekly market in his castle. Once the market started to prosper, Peter could lay the foundations of a town called Birmingham.

In 1232, workers formed an agreement with William De Birmingham to free them obligatory haymaking duties. It is believed that these merchants went on to be involved in the new and lucrative cloth industry, which is what started Birmingham on the long and winding road to manufacturing. In the Doomsday book of 1086 Birmingham is recorded as having just 5 villagers, 4 smallholders and 2 ploughs, a far cry from the Birmingham we all know today! Birmingham is now a vibrant and exciting city, great for shopping, eating, drinking and living.
